Leading young scientists from 16 countries to meet Germany\u2019s sustainability research elite on 17-26 October and visit green science\u2019s hotspots<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Bonn<\/strong>:\u00a0Yam p. Siwakoti along with 25 other young scientists from different countries will be awarded at alumni conference as green talent 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Green Talents Award held under the patronage of the German Research Minister Professor Johanna Wanka is recognizing young talented researchers for the eighth time and providing a platform to share their innovative and creative ideas which aim to answer pressing sustainability and environmental protection questions of our time. The Nepalese Yam P. Siwakoti, <\/strong>having obtained a PhD in Power Electronics and with a research focus on application of power electronics for renewable and sustainable power generation and management, was among this year\u2019s winners. A high-ranking jury of experts selected 25 up-and-coming scientists out of 757 applications from over 104 countries. The award consists of the \u201cGreen Talents \u2013 International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development\u201d where the awardees travel through Germany for two weeks, to visit hotspots of green science and to meet the sustainability research elite. In the following year, the Green Talents have the possibility to conduct research in Germany for up to three months.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s \u201cGreen Talents\u201d can expect to interact with leading experts and some of the most renowned research institutions and companies, including the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Hamburg University of Technology, the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Siemens AG and the Southern African Service Center for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 25 awardees will be honoured during a festive award ceremony at the Green Talents Alumni Meeting 2016 attended by representatives of the participating institutions, their experts, jury members, politicians and other distinguished guests. Minister Professor Johanna Wanka will open the conference; Professor Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, will hold a keynote speech on \u201cClimate effects and vulnerability.\u201d The conference\u2019s highly diversified programme offers all of its participants countless networking possibilities. During the conference Green Talents can get connected to the science\u00a0community and exchange ideas with key innovators and lay the foundations for future cooperation. Such efforts are supported by the invitation to return to Germany for a fully\u00a0funded research stay at an institution of the Green Talent\u2019s choice in the year after the award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Yam P. Siwakoti, PhD in Power Electronics (37, Nepal)worked for many years in the area of renewable energy and sustainable power generation. His objective is to build scientific partnerships between Nepal and Germany to share both education and research findings, experiences and ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n
