The Himalayas, which can be translated from Sanskrit as \u2018abode of snow\u2019, are the source of many major Asian rivers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Launched on 7 May 2013,<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Space_Engineering_Technology\/Proba_Missions\/Overview2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proba-V<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0is a miniaturised ESA satellite tasked with a full-scale mission: to map land cover and vegetation growth across the entire planet every two days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Its main camera\u2019s continent-spanning 2250 km swath width collects light in the blue, red, near-infrared and mid-infrared wavebands at 300 m resolution and down to 100 m resolution in its central field of view.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">VITO Remote Sensing in Belgium processes and then distributes Proba-V data to users worldwide. An<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/proba-v.vgt.vito.be\/PROBAV%20galleries\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online image gallery<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">highlights some of the mission\u2019s most striking images so far, including views of storms, fires and deforestation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This 100
