The international crew of astronauts lifted off at 9:03 p.m. EST Wednesday from Launch Complex 39A at NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket propelled the Crew Dragon Endurance spacecraft with NASA astronauts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/astronauts\/biographies\/raja-chari\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Raja Chari<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/astronauts\/biographies\/thomas-h-marshburn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tom Marshburn<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/astronauts\/biographies\/barron-kayla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kayla Barron<\/a>, as well as ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.esa.int%2FScience_Exploration%2FHuman_and_Robotic_Exploration%2FCosmic_kiss&amp;data=04%7C01%7Chqnews%40newsletters.nasa.gov%7Ca74523554691442df9f208d9a4c15d22%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637721972668871328%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=4UegfpCgtnybgZJD9MbW9NptgvBRA1ZlThAjp%2B6SvmY%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Matthias Maurer<\/a>, into orbit to begin a six-month science mission on the space station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mission is the first spaceflight for astronauts Chari, Barron, and Maurer, and the third for Marshburn. Marshburn is the sixth person to launch from Earth on three different spacecraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Crew Dragon\u2019s flight, SpaceX will monitor a series of automatic spacecraft maneuvers from its mission control center in Hawthorne, California, and NASA teams will monitor space station operations throughout the flight from the Mission Control Center at the agency\u2019s Johnson Space Center in Houston.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Raja, Thomas, Kayla and Mattias on their way to the International Space Station just days after Crew-2\u2019s return, we\u2019re seeing the power of American ingenuity right before our eyes,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cNASA\u2019s partnership with SpaceX is not only critical for cutting-edge research, but also for international collaboration. The space station brings together nations around the world for the benefit of all. Godspeed, Crew-3 \u2013 I can\u2019t wait to see all that you accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crew Dragon Endurance will dock autonomously to the forward port of the station\u2019s Harmony module around 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11. NASA Television, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/connect\/apps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NASA app<\/a>, and the agency\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>&nbsp;are providing ongoing live coverage through docking, hatch opening, and the ceremony to welcome the crew aboard the orbital outpost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEnsuring our crews have safe transportation and continued access to space is an enormous responsibility,\u201d said Steve Stich, manager with NASA\u2019s Commercial Crew Program. \u201cWe know the crew is excited to get on station and settle into their long-duration mission. On behalf of ESA, I\u2019d like to wish all Crew-3 astronauts a productive and enjoyable mission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crew-3&nbsp;astronauts will spend&nbsp;approximately six months&nbsp;aboard the space station conducting new and exciting&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/station\/research\/news\/Crew-3-Launch-to-ISS-Alongside-Microgravity-Research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scientific research<\/a>&nbsp;in areas such as&nbsp;materials&nbsp;science, health&nbsp;technologies, and&nbsp;plant science&nbsp;to&nbsp;prepare for human exploration beyond low-Earth orbit and&nbsp;to benefit life on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crew-3\u00a0mission continues NASA\u2019s efforts to restore and maintain American leadership in human spaceflight. Regular, long-duration\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/commercialcrew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commercial crew<\/a>\u00a0rotation missions enable NASA to continue the important research and technology investigations taking place\u00a0aboard the station.
