The more scientists study the benefits of a restful night\u2019s sleep, the more they learn that an eight-hour slumber rejuvenates just about every system in your body. And likewise, missing out on it can yield some devastating consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Despite, or perhaps because of, the tireless American work ethic, people are getting surprisingly little sleep each night. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called insufficient sleep a \u201cpublic health epidemic,\u201d as an estimated\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: normal; color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iom.edu\/Reports\/2006\/Sleep-Disorders-and-Sleep-Deprivation-An-Unmet-Public-Health-Problem.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">50 to 70 million adults<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. suffer from a disorder of sleep and wakefulness. In a separate measure, nearly\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: normal; color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/features\/dssleep\/index.html#References\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">40 percent<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of people reported unintentionally falling asleep at least once in the past month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To add insult to injury, lost sleep is mostly irretrievable. You can\u2019t pay back the hours you missed during the week by sleeping later on the weekends, at least up to a certain point. Dr. Reghu Reddy, a sleep medicine specialist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences,\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: normal; color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uamshealth.com\/?id=11491&amp;sid=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">says<\/span><\/a>\u00a0five hours of lost sleep in a week can be made up over the weekend. But lose over 20 hours and you won\u2019t feel replenished just by repaying your debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sleep is very vital to have a healthy we. So sleep must be treated as\u00a0like as we\u00a0treat food and water. It\u2019s indispensable.
