{"id":40,"date":"2014-09-04T07:35:50","date_gmt":"2014-09-04T07:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/?p=40"},"modified":"2014-09-04T07:35:50","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T07:35:50","slug":"hypergravity-proposals-requested-for-spin-your-thesis-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/hypergravity-proposals-requested-for-spin-your-thesis-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Hypergravity proposals requested for spin your thesis! 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"center\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/h3>\n<p class=\"myfont\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<div class=\"section\" style=\"color: #031e31;\">\n<p>The\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"1\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0Education Office is issuing a call to university students who want to take advantage of next year\u2019s opportunity to conduct\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"hypergravity\" data-scaytid=\"2\">hypergravity<\/span>\u00a0experiments.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"5\">SYT<\/span>\u00a0campaign, which will take place September-October 2015, is open to four teams of undergraduate, graduate and PhD students from\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"3\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0Member or Cooperating States.<\/p>\n<p>The selected teams, each comprising up to four students, will be given the rare opportunity to conduct science or technology experiments under\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"hypergravity\" data-scaytid=\"4\">hypergravity<\/span>\u00a0conditions (between 1 and 20 times Earth\u2019s gravity). These experiments must be linked to part of their academic syllabus.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"8\">SYT<\/span>\u00a0enables students to use\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\u2019s\" data-scaytid=\"13\">ESA\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Large Diameter Centrifuge (<span data-scayt_word=\"LDC\" data-scaytid=\"15\">LDC<\/span>) facility, which is located at\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\u2019s\" data-scaytid=\"14\">ESA\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0European Space Research and Technology Centre (<span data-scayt_word=\"ESTEC\" data-scaytid=\"16\">ESTEC<\/span>) in\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"Noordwijk\" data-scaytid=\"17\">Noordwijk<\/span>, the Netherlands. The facility is available for up to 2.5 days per team (with flexible time slots).<\/p>\n<p>A review board composed of experts from\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"10\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0098db;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elgra.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ELGRA<\/a>\u00a0(European Low Gravity Research Association) will select the best experiment proposals to be performed in the\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"LDC\" data-scaytid=\"20\">LDC<\/span>.\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"11\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0staff will provide technical support to the selected teams throughout the experiment design and completion. \u00a0In addition,\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ELGRA\" data-scaytid=\"28\">ELGRA<\/span>\u00a0will offer students the opportunity to consult a scientific mentor.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"24\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0Education Office will provide financial support to cover part of travel, accommodation and\/or hardware expenses.<\/p>\n<p><b>The submission deadline for experiment proposals for\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"31\">SYT<\/span>\u00a02015 is 7 December 2014.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"s_1\" class=\"section\" style=\"color: #031e31;\">\n<h3 class=\"subh\" style=\"color: #000000;\">The value of Spin Your Thesis!<\/h3>\n<div class=\"img_obj r_img\">\n<div class=\"img\">\n<p><a style=\"color: #0098db;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/ESA_Multimedia\/Images\/2014\/09\/Experiment_in_a_LDC_gondola\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/var\/esa\/storage\/images\/esa_multimedia\/images\/2014\/09\/experiment_in_a_ldc_gondola\/14765560-1-eng-GB\/Experiment_in_a_LDC_gondola_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"254\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"txt\">Experiment in a<span data-scayt_word=\"LDC\" data-scaytid=\"33\">LDC<\/span>\u00a0gondola<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>During the\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"34\">SYT<\/span>\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"programme\" data-scaytid=\"43\">programme<\/span>, students not only have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, but also receive valuable feedback from\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ESA\" data-scaytid=\"35\">ESA<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"ELGRA\" data-scaytid=\"36\">ELGRA<\/span>\u00a0experts.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"programme\" data-scaytid=\"46\">programme<\/span>\u00a0enables participants to develop important practical skills through hands-on activities, as well as learning about project management, problem solving, development and testing of hardware \/ software.<\/p>\n<p>As a direct consequence of the research they conducted during\u00a0<span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"48\">SYT<\/span>\u00a0campaigns, members of previous student teams have been able to present their results at international conferences and\/or publish papers in leading scientific journals.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scayt_word=\"SYT\" data-scaytid=\"50\">SYT<\/span>\u00a0also provides opportunities to work in an international environment and network with other students.
