statement Friday defending himself after a group of physicians wrote a letter to Columbia University Medical School asking for the TV personality\u2019s dismissal from the college\u2019s department of surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The letter sent to the Ivy League institution insisted he should be removed from the role of vice chairman due to his \u201cegregious lack of integrity\u201d and promotion of \u201cquack treatments\u201d with no scientific support showing they work, according to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dddmag.com\/news\/2015\/04\/physicians-want-dr-oz-gone-columbia-medical-faculty?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Associated Press.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">USA Today\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2015\/04\/17\/doctors-want-oz-fired-from-columbia\/25929941\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reports<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Oz responded in a statement explaining his show provides \u201cmultiple points of a view\u201d on a topic in order to \u201cbring the public information that will help them on their path to be their best selves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Oz acknowledges that he does give his own views on certain subjects although that input is provided \u201cwithout conflict of interest\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, the noted heart surgeon has come under scrutiny before for his affiliation with health products of dubious medical value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Oz said in\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/people\/2014\/06\/17\/dr-oz-senate-panel-weight-scams\/10701067\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Senate hearing<\/span><\/a>\u00a0last year not all of the supplements he has discussed on his show would \u201cpass Food and Drug Administration muster\u201d while the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached a<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dddmag.com\/articles\/2015\/01\/dr-oz-and-weight-loss-claim-controversy?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">$9 million dollar settlement<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with a guest of the doctor\u2019s program, Lindsay Duncan, in January after the agency argued Duncan used his appearance to build a business using falsified claims to sell weight-loss pills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">USA Today added that Columbia would not be taking any action against Dr. Oz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A spokesperson for the college, Doug Levy, told the publication Columbia \u201cdoes not regulate faculty engagement in public discourse.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Source: <a
