The organization sells $99 DNA testing kits and has \u201chas genotyped the DNA sequence of over one million customers,\u201d writes Re\/code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The announcement explains Calico\u2019s scientists will sift through Ancestry\u2019s database to analyze longevity patterns found in families with relatives who have lived an extraordinarily long time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ken Chahine, Ancestry\u2019s executive vice president and head of DNA and health, told Bloomberge News, \u201cIf you aggregate a set of individuals who had long-lived families and we have their genetic information as well, that\u2019s to start making hypotheses about the heritability of longevity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Essentially, the goal of this endeavor is to understand these trends and potentially commercialize and develop drugs to help other people prolong their lifespans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Calico\u2019s collaboration with Ancestry is similar to a patnership\u00a0the biotech firm made with Harvard and MIT\u2019s Broad Institute in March 2015. All three parties agreed to work together on studying the \u201cbiology and genetics of aging\u201d to gain better insight into diseases like hypertension and atherosclerosis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Data-related drug discovery and development is becoming a growing trend.
