The excitatory dopamine receptor in the mice was triggered more and more easily with less and less stimulation over time, they found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These \u201cD1 receptors\u201d were known to become more accustomed to activation \u2013 and then promoted more alcohol consumption than ever before, they added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the D1 receptors were inhibited with drugs, the mice did not want alcohol as much, they found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIf these neurons are excited, you will want to drink alcohol,\u201d said Wang. \u201cYou\u2019ll have a craving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cMy ultimate goal is to understand how the addicted brain works,\u201d Wang added, \u201cand once we do, one day, we\u2019ll be able to suppress the craving for another round of drinks and ultimately stop the cycle of alcoholism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Drinking has long been known to increase the effects of inhibitor GABA in the brain, while inhibiting the excitatory glutamate neurotransmitter.
