One prominent symptom of the disease is hyperphagia, a condition that induces a voracious appetite leading to severe obesity, or even death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Zafgen\u2019s trial had 107 participants,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.xconomy.com\/boston\/2016\/01\/20\/some-good-news-finally-for-zafgens-obesity-drug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">according to\u00a0<em>Xconomy.<\/em><\/span><\/a>The researchers randomly assigned high (2.4 mg) or low (1.8 mg) doses of beloranib to patients twice a week for six months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Study participants who took the high dose lost an estimated 5.3 percent of their body weight whereas the low-dose recipients lost 4.05 percent, adds\u00a0<em>Xconomy.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Zafgen faced a big setback last year when two patients died during a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dddmag.com\/news\/2015\/12\/zafgen-reports-second-death-key-drug-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">late-stage study of beloranib.<\/span><\/a>Regulators insisted Zafgen put a hold on conducting further research in order to figure out next steps. Its stock plunged a little more than 60 percent in December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The company said on Wednesday it would submit efficacy and safety data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from the study, writes\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf3b41;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-zafgen-study-idUSKCN0UY17T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Reuters.<\/em><\/span><\/a>\u00a0It plans on doing more research regarding the impact beloranib has on blood-clotting capabilities to discern its potential risks to patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shares of Zafgen were up 78 percent in premarket
