Over the next two weeks we will continue to check and commission its systems, including the power, communications, startrackers, and guidance and navigation system.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"s_2\" class=\"section\" style=\"font-weight: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8128\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8128\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ExoMars_2016_liftoff_medium.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8128\" src=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ExoMars_2016_liftoff_medium.jpg\" alt=\"ExoMars 2016 liftoff\" width=\"305\" height=\"171\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ExoMars_2016_liftoff_medium.jpg 305w, https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ExoMars_2016_liftoff_medium-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ExoMars_2016_liftoff_medium-70x40.jpg 70w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8128\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ExoMars 2016 liftoff<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Schiaparelli, which is hitching a ride to Mars with TGO, will also be thoroughly checked in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Starting in April, the ExoMars team at ESA\u2019s mission control centre in Darmstadt, Germany, will work with the science teams to start switching on and commissioning the craft\u2019s scientific instruments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">NASA\u2019s Electra radio relay will also be switched on and checked next month.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"s_3\" class=\"section\" style=\"font-weight: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In June, the science control centre at ESA\u2019s establishment near Madrid, Spain, will start working with the instrument teams at their various institutes, and the Roscosmos science operations centre, to perform a mid-cruise checkout of TGO\u2019s instruments.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"s_4\" class=\"section\" style=\"font-weight: normal;\">\n<h3 class=\"subh\" style=\"color: #000000; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not many problems to solve<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_8130\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8130\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Teamwork_medium.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8130\" src=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Teamwork_medium.jpg\" alt=\"Teamwork\" width=\"305\" height=\"171\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Teamwork_medium.jpg 305w, https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Teamwork_medium-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Teamwork_medium-70x40.jpg 70w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teamwork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the only problem seen so far, the team noted some hours after establishing a communication link that the temperature of the main engine, to be used later during the cruise and at Mars arrival, had started to rise more than expected.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"s_5\" class=\"section\" style=\"font-weight: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In consultations with engineers from Thales Alenia Space France, TGO\u2019s prime contractor, it was determined that simply adjusting the craft\u2019s orientation in space by a few degrees so that the engine nozzle was no longer directly facing the Sun would do the trick. It did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIt\u2019s obvious that the European industry who built ExoMars has done an excellent job,\u201d says Michel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By Thursday evening, 17 March, the mission control team had declared the \u2018Launch and Early Orbit Phase\u2019 \u2013 one of the most critical periods in any mission\u2019s life \u2013 complete, and finished work in the main control room in Darmstadt.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"s_6\" class=\"section\" style=\"font-weight: normal;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From now on, routine operations will be handled from a smaller room, where space and facilities will be shared with other interplanetary
