{"id":8873,"date":"2016-05-31T09:38:51","date_gmt":"2016-05-31T09:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/?p=8873"},"modified":"2016-06-05T06:50:11","modified_gmt":"2016-06-05T06:50:11","slug":"8873","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.revoscience.com\/en\/8873\/","title":{"rendered":"IAEA Completes Nuclear Security Review Mission in Albania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #a52a2a; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/iaea-logo.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8874\" src=\"http:\/\/revoscience.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/iaea-logo.gif\" alt=\"iaea logo\" width=\"273\" height=\"67\" title=\"\"><\/a>Tirana, Albania\u00a0\u2013 An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts today completed a mission to review national nuclear security practices in Albania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333; text-align: justify;\">The IAEA conducted the two-week\u00a0<a style=\"color: #1155cc;\" href=\"https:\/\/www-ns.iaea.org\/security\/ippas.asp\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www-ns.iaea.org\/security\/ippas.asp&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1464771382590000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHhbSHrc0XfApj7nanASxMc4XuH-g\" rel=\"noopener\">International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS)<\/a>\u00a0mission at the Government\u2019s request. The mission reviewed Albania\u2019s nuclear security-related legislative and regulatory framework for radioactive material and associated facilities and activities. In addition, the team reviewed the physical protection systems at the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics and at the Mother Theresa Hospital in Tirana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333; text-align: justify;\">The IPPAS team concluded that Albania has taken important steps to strengthen nuclear security. The team identified a number of good practices while also making recommendations and suggestions for continuous improvement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333; text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe example given by Albania strongly reinforces the importance and the value of establishing and applying IAEA nuclear security guidance,\u201d said Nicolas Delaunay, the IAEA technical coordinator for the mission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333; text-align: justify;\">The team, led by David Ladsous, Project Manager in nuclear security at the Institute of Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) in France, comprised five experts from five nations as well as an IAEA representative.
