Kathmandu, October 6 — The body of 46-year-old Korean national Taejun Park has been airlifted to Kathmandu through the initiative of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
Park had gone missing due to extreme weather conditions and was found approximately 300 meters below the summit of Mera Peak.
Under NMA’s coordination, IFMGA/NNMGA mountain guides Riten Tashi Sherpa and Ashish Gurung were deployed for the search and rescue mission. During the operation, Sherpa guide Temba Sherpa was found safe yesterday, but unfortunately, Park was confirmed dead.
On October 6, the rescue team retrieved Park’s body from the location below the summit and transported it to Kathmandu by helicopter. Although a flight had been dispatched to Lukla earlier, persistent bad weather in the Mera region had posed significant challenges to the rescue efforts
