Nepal Studies in Russia Symposium Highlights Academic and Artistic Cooperation

KATHMANDU, April 8 – A symposium on “Nepal Studies in Russia” has been held at the Russian House in Kathmandu to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia.

The one-day event, jointly organised by Shailee Theater and the Russian House, brought together academics, diplomats, and artists to highlight cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.

Rinchen Rakshaev, Chargé d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy in Nepal, said cultural and academic exchange remained central to strengthening bilateral ties.

Former Nepali ambassador to Russia, Prof Dr Jangab Chauhan, delivered the keynote address. He recalled poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota’s visit to Moscow as a landmark in cultural diplomacy and noted the contributions of Nepali graduates from Russian universities in medicine, engineering, and other fields.

Nabaraj Budhathoki of Shailee Theater spoke about the group’s 17-year collaboration with the Russian House, staging Russian plays in Nepal. He pledged to continue artistic cooperation through new productions.

Russian House Director Anastasia Khokhlova congratulated Shailee Theater for its role in cultural exchange and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to supporting educational and developmental cooperation with Nepal.
