Tianjin, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday emphasized the growing responsibilities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in safeguarding regional peace and stability and in promoting development across member nations amid rising global uncertainties and rapid transformations.
Speaking at a banquet held in Tianjin to welcome international delegates attending the SCO Summit 2025, Xi underscored the organization’s evolving role in fostering unity and cooperation among member states. The summit, taking place from Sunday to Monday, brings together leaders and representatives from across the SCO region.
President Xi expressed strong confidence in the summit’s success, stating that with joint efforts from all parties, the SCO is poised to achieve greater progress and play a more influential role on the global stage.
He noted that the organization’s contributions will be key to strengthening ties among member countries, amplifying the collective voice of the Global South, and advancing human civilization.
The SCO, founded in 2001, includes major regional powers such as China, Russia, India, and several Central Asian nations. It has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for multilateral cooperation in areas ranging from security and trade to cultural exchange and sustainable development.
The 2025 summit in Tianjin is expected to focus on strategic collaboration, economic integration, and shared approaches to global challenges.
