International Seminar on Interdisciplinary approaches to biological applications will be organized in Nepal

???????????????????????????????The Central Department of Biotechnology (CDBT), Tribhuvan University (TU) and Society for Biological Application Nepal (SBAN), are jointly organizing ‘International Seminar on Interdisciplinary approaches to biological applications’ on 1st July 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The seminar is aimed to highlight the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in different branches of biological research i.e. bio-energy, biomedical sciences, and Industrial sciences etc.

According to CDBT, Among three keynotes speakers Prof. David Fell and Dr. Mark Poolman, came from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford UK; and Prof. Rajesh Singh Tomar, Director of Amity University, India will highlight the Metabolic Modeling and its application in the field of Biotechnology. “It’s a computational biology, which is very early stage in Nepal, has been conducting for four days, said ‘Prof. Dr. Rajani Malla, head of CDBT, TU.

???????????????????????????????According to her, whole program is divided into three session, bio-energy and bio-fuels, biomedical sciences, and Industrial sciences; which explain the interdisciplinary research on natural products, biotechnology application, and medical research, mathematical and computational approaches and also explain the new approaches being used to upscale biotechnology methods to an industrial scale.

Along with the seminar, CDBT kicked off the metabolic modeling workshop yesterday. This workshop has been conducted in the presence of Prof. David Fell, Professor of system biology, and Department of biological and medical sciences- Faculty of health and life sciences of Oxford brooks University, London.

In addition, this workshop is technically assistance by Dr. Mark Poolman, Oxford brooks University, Prof. Rajesh Singh Tomar, Amity University, India and Nepalese expert Dr. Kailash Adhikari and Deepali Sing, Oxford brooks University.

More than 40 participants around the country, will be introduced to the concept of metabolic modeling and structural analysis metabolic models, has said by Rajani Malla.

Nowadays, CDBT Postgraduate Students have been doing research on bacteriophage under her supervision; and it has highly appreciative result, she added.
