SINGAPORE — Huawei unveiled new intelligent perimeter sensing features for its Smart Substation Solution at the 25th Conference of Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI 2025), where it participated as a gold sponsor.
The event, hosted by SP Group under the theme “Empowering the Energy Transition”, brought together more than 4,000 energy leaders, government officials, and industry partners.
The new features use fiber optics and AI-driven algorithms to detect intrusions and equipment risks with high accuracy, addressing the limitations of traditional substations that rely on manual inspections and passive monitoring. Huawei says the system integrates fiber sensing with visual confirmation, reducing false alarms and improving operational safety.
Jason Li, President of Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, said automation, digitalization, and AI will be “key drivers for grid modernization,” enabling both stability and flexibility in power systems.
Leo Zhang, Vice President of Huawei Enterprise Optical Network Domain, highlighted that the AI-based fiber-optic sensing solution provides 24/7 monitoring, enhances perimeter and cable protection, and lowers inspection costs.
Other executives stressed the importance of reliable communication networks and computing power to unlock AI’s potential in the energy sector. Industry partners, including Beijing Yueneng Technology, also underscored AI’s role in supporting sustainable growth in renewable energy.
Alongside product announcements, Huawei hosted roundtables and forums with regional partners and showcased its intelligent power solutions at Huawei OpenLab. The company reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the digital and intelligent transformation of the energy industry.
