Kathmandu- Indonesian female climber Nadya Gianifa has successfully summited Mt Ama Dablam (6,812 metres) in Nepal as part of the Indonesian Women’s Red and White Expedition Ama Dablam Nepal (EMPPIAN) 2026.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dhaka, Nadya reached the summit on May 15 at 3:45 PM Nepal Time after an arduous summit push through the Himalayan terrain. The achievement has been described as a symbol of the courage, resilience, and capability of Indonesian women in international mountaineering.
The expedition is the first phase of a long-term climbing mission that includes plans to climb Mt Manaslu in Nepal in 2027 before attempting K2 in Pakistan.
The expedition was organised in the spirit of Indonesia’s Kartini Day and inspired by the ideals of national figure Raden Ajeng Kartini, who advocated equal opportunities and roles for women in various sectors, including extreme sports and mountaineering.
Nadya arrived in Nepal on April 29 and was welcomed by representatives of the Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Nepal, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, along with members of the Indonesian community in Nepal.
During the expedition, Nadya completed acclimatisation rotations from Base Camp to Camps 1 and 2. She was initially accompanied by Nepali guide Pasang Sherpa and later joined by professional guides Sonam Sherpa and Purba Tamang during the summit push.
Following nearly 19 hours of climbing in extreme conditions, she safely reached the summit and later returned to Kathmandu in good health.
To honour the achievement, representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka and the Indonesian community in Nepal organised a welcoming ceremony for Nadya Gianifa and another Indonesian female climber, Furky Syahroni, who also summited Ama Dablam on May 17.
With these successful ascents, the number of Indonesian climbers who have summited Ama Dablam has reached 12. On the occasion, Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh and Nepal Listyowati congratulated the climbers and said the achievement would inspire Indonesian women to pursue their dreams and strengthen ties between the Indonesian and Nepalese communities.
